If you've ever wondered how Big Bear Mountain Resorts makes excellent snow here is a quick explanation. There is only one ingredient in man-made snow: Water. We get all we need from Big Bear Lake. Water is atomized and blown into the cold dry mountain air. It freezes and falls to the ground as real snow! A sophisticated system of generators, compressors, and pumps distributes power, compressed air and water. High tech snowcats with special resurfacing equipment make a fresh surface every night. Snow Summit and Bear Mountain make snow at every possible opportunity November through March. This season has provided the best snowmaking conditions in Big Bear Mountain Resort's history! The snow will last well into April. Check out our web page at www.bigbearmountainresorts.com for the latest weather and snow conditions.

With a nearly inexhaustible supply of water from Big Bear Lake, Snow Summit and Bear Mountain have covered nearly 100% of our developed runs with a fresh blanket of manmade snow – from two to three feet on most runs! This is substantially more than any other Southern California resort, as they rely on extremely limited amounts of well water and are often forced to reduce their snowmaking, thus offering fewer open runs. Recent cold temperatures have allowed us to put down record amounts of snow so don't wait around for natural snow when unrivaled conditions are here right now!

Although it may take extra time to travel to Big Bear, our excellent conditions are well worth the drive:
HWY 18/330 (San Bernardino): Open with chains required on all vehicles except 4-wheel drives with snow tires on all 4 wheels.
HWY 18 (Lucerne): Open- no chains restrictions
HWY 38 (Redlands): Open- no chain restrictions.
Always carry chains in your vehicle when traveling to the mountains during winter months, including 4 wheel drives with snow tires!
