Ski Resorts to open this Friday!!!!
Snow Summit and Bear Mountain report:
"We received 16” – 20” inches of fresh snow overnight. Get ready for the earliest opening in years! We are likely to open one or both of the resorts by Friday, but continue to check this report as the snow continues to fall and it might be sooner."

Boy did it snow!!!!
And it keeps coming! I live on the east end of the Valley where is normally the least amount of snow and we woke up to about 1 1/2 feet of snow and it keeps snowing. I can imagine how much snow Snow Summit and Bear Mountain got today! Wow!
Apparently, according to snow records, the last time we got this much snow in October was back in 94, which happened to lead to a El Nino year of 94/95. So if this is an indication of what's to come, then we'll have plenty of snow to go around this winter!
If you are planning to come up this weekend: Roads should be clear by Friday, but you may want to make reservations ahead of time. I have the feeling it'll be busy. If you need help use our Reservation System

No snow yet, at least not at lake level, but man did it rain! We are only expecting some isolated showers today, perhaps some snow flurries, but I am not getting my hopes up as its suppose to clear all out as the day progresses. Big Bear Lake

Here is what snowforecast.com has to say about today's weather
"Today winds really increase by afternoon with similar chilly temperatures expected in a continued moist flow aloft. A strong low pressure system developing and dropping through California sends some serious wind and a cold front through Wednesday, with snow levels going from 9,000 feet in heavy showers this evening, down to near 7,000 feet in lighter snow showers during the day on Wednesday. We may get a few inches of snow at Resort base elevations, with better snowfall possible up top on Wednesday with winds expected to decrease. The peaks could really get dumped on when all is said and done"
Get out the jackets folks. It's cold and windy. Can't wait until the snow has fallen and the sun comes back. Guess we are kind of spoiled here with over 300 days of sunshine. But what the heck... I got a fire going and the hot chocolate is waiting. I'll keep you all posted as to how much snow we just had.
Stay dry :-)

Will it snow??? Sure looks like it. It's been blowing wind all night and wall of clouds came over the valley since yesterday. But the forecast reads "The system passing through is, as expected, too warm for snow at the resorts, though the peaks above 9,000 feet should have a decent dump of snow on them. Showers generally taper off this morning with skies clearing as this system pulls out of the area today. Cold today for so early in the season."
And then for Sunday and the rest of the week:
TOMORROW THROUGH 6 DAYS - Unseasonably STRONG (just like we want them to be) large scale (longwave) low pressure develops over the west, but for Monday we only see some cloudiness and sun mixed as we are in between systems. On Tuesday, winds really increase with similar chilly temperatures expected in a continued moist flow aloft. The lower coastal slopes will likely see some drizzle and even light showers, dry at the resorts above. A strong system developing and dropping through California sends some serious wind and a cold front through Tuesday evening/ night, with snow levels going from 9,000 feet down to 7,500 feet by evening. Snow is possible at the base of the resorts by Wednesday morning and on Wednesday as this strong system moves through. We may get a few inches of snow at the base elevations, with better snowfall possible up top. The peaks could really get dumped on. Wednesday does clear out as this strong system leaves. Thursday looks drier and chilly in a pre-high pressure northwest flow aloft. Not a bad series of events to prime the area for snowmaking and a new season! Warmer Friday, but we may have to watch for a Pacific storm brushing the area Saturday and Sunday with some clouds and wind.
